With deep sadness, we share the passing of BMQ The Jig Is Up, affectionately known as Ziggy, at the age of 17. This special gelding was a cherished member of the Nielson family, especially Alysia, who found both joy and purpose in the saddle aboard him.
Ziggy was an exceptional partner—talented, quirky, and unforgettable. His gifts in the show pen were undeniable, but what truly set him apart was his heart. As Alysia beautifully shared, “When I first rode him 10 years ago, I had no idea the impact he would have on my life and the life of our family. He was so talented, but his quirks are what made him the animal we cherish.”
Together, they built a career marked by accolades, but it was the bond beyond the ribbons that meant the most. “My time with him made me fall in love with riding, and I could never repay him for all he has done for me. Everyone who was blessed enough to go in the pen with him knows that his try and the joy of showing him outweighed the awards.”
Ziggy was a constant source of growth, strength, and joy for those who knew him. His influence on Alysia and the Nielson family will live on far beyond the arena.
“I wish we had more time together,” Alysia reflected. “But I can’t wait until I see you again, Zig.”
