With heavy hearts, we honour the life of Docs Litl Kicker, lovingly known as “Lucy” – a great mare and true matriarch of Twisted 2S Ranch.
Lucy was the kind of mare every program is built around. Steady, wise, and deeply important, she spent her life doing what exceptional mares do best: giving her people something to be proud of, and giving the herd a calm, dependable centre. Over the years, she raised some incredible foals, including babies by Gunner, Dun Gotta Gun, Gunners Special Nite, Electric Code, The Sweet Spot, and her last foal by Paintd By Gunsmoke – a legacy that will continue to carry her influence forward.
When her producing years were done, Lucy didn’t stop being “the mare.” She simply shifted roles, retiring to the pasture where she became the babysitter for the younger horses – and, by all accounts, she was amazing at it. The kind of older mare who teaches without drama, watches over the herd, and makes everything feel a little more settled.
And of course, there are the small things that end up being the biggest: her nickers at feed time – the sound you don’t realize you depend on until it’s gone.
To everyone at Twisted 2S Ranch, we are so sorry for your loss. Run free, Lucy. Your hoofprints are all over that ranch, and they will never fade. 🤍
