2024 – 2025
With deep sorrow, we share the passing of Downright Delicious, the bright young colt lovingly known as “Turtle Pie.” Sired by Down Right Amazing—the first reining horse to surpass $1,000,000 in lifetime earnings—and out of TR Platinum Shine (by Platinum Vintage), Turtle Pie carried a pedigree rich with promise and a quiet, kind eye that won hearts wherever he went.
From the beginning, Turtle Pie showed the balance, brain, and presence that make great ones. Bred for the big stage—Down Right Amazing on top and Platinum Vintage through his dam—he was on track to begin “kindergarten” in just a few weeks. His owner, Lucinda “Boo” Ross, dreamed not only of show pens and banners, but of a long, happy life shared with a once-in-a-lifetime partner.
Turtle Pie suffered a freak, catastrophic injury in the pasture. Despite immediate transport to a Weatherford surgical hospital and the very best efforts of veterinarians and surgeons, nothing more could be done. He was humanely laid to rest on September 1, 2025.
“Breeding and raising your own babies is not for sissies… Owning horses is such a mixture of extreme joy and extreme heartbreak.”
— Lucinda “Boo” Ross
Boo’s gratitude extends to the friends who rallied without hesitation and to the medical teams who fought for Turtle Pie until the very end. That outpouring of support is a testament to the colt’s quiet magic and the community that believed in him.
Downright Delicious will be remembered for the promise he carried, the softness in his eye, and the dreams he inspired. Though his time was far too short, he left an imprint that will not fade—on Boo, on everyone who loved him, and on a future he helped us imagine.
Our hearts are with Boo Ross and all who knew and loved Turtle Pie.
