All of us at StallionCompare extend our deepest condolences to Sheri Kern Gepp and the entire team behind the exceptional stallion Fortunateson, who was tragically lost this week following complications stemming from colic surgery.
A 2012 bay stallion by Blazing Hot and out of the extraordinary mare Choicetta Barreta, Fortunateson embodied the very best of conformation, performance, and heart. His accomplishments in the show arena were matched by the quality of his foals and the affection he earned from everyone privileged to know him.
Shortly after arriving at the 2025 NSBA World Show days ago, Fortunateson began exhibiting signs of colic. Veterinary intervention was immediate, and he underwent successful surgery for an impaction. Sadly, while recovering from anesthesia, he suffered a fatal fall — a heartbreaking outcome made all the more painful by its preventability.
“Son,” as he was lovingly known, was more than a stallion. He was a barn favorite, a trusted partner, and a symbol of hope for breeders and competitors alike. His quiet strength, kind demeanor, and enduring legacy through his foals leave an indelible mark on the industry.
We are honored to have shared in Fortunateson’s story and are deeply saddened by this loss on behalf of Sheri and all who loved him. His impact will not be forgotten.
