With aching hearts, we share the passing of Hot Dayum, a young show mare whose promise, presence, and generous spirit touched everyone who knew her. Bred for greatness and built for try, she was sired by the legendary One Hot Krymsun and out of Injoy The Ride, a daughter of RL Best Of Sudden—a pedigree that spoke to balance, style, and trainability. She carried all of it with grace.
Her story with Tali Terlizzi began with a set of videos of a two-year-old black mare—hairy, muddy, living outside—who took your breath away the moment she moved. From that day forward, Hot Dayum was the “diamond in the rough” that proved herself again and again. She was the kindest, sweetest, most earnest mare in the barn: accepting of anything you asked, willing to please, and blessed with the sort of talent you cannot teach.
The journey wasn’t easy. There were highs that hinted at all she would become, and hard stretches that demanded courage from horse and humans alike. Through every up and down, her team never wavered in their care or belief in her. With heartfelt thanks to Kelby and Kaitlin Hutchinson for countless hours of hands-on dedication; to Britney Gale and Katie Currier for keeping her happy, comfortable, and—when needed—lovingly “bubble-wrapped”; and to the many veterinarians who stood beside her with skill and compassion. Your efforts gave Hot Dayum the good days she deserved, and gave those who loved her time to savour the small moments that matter most.
Hot Dayum will be remembered for her soft eye, her honesty, and the way she floated when she found her rhythm—quiet, cadenced, and all heart. She leaves behind not only a pedigree of consequence, but also the imprint of a true partner: the mare who met you where you were and tried with everything she had.
Today we let her run free—pain-free at last, and (as those who knew her best will smile to imagine) surrounded by all the cookies she could ever want. Thank you, Hot Dayum, for the lessons, the tries, and the love. You were so deeply cherished, and you always will be.
🤍 Rest easy, sweet girl.
