Slow Legs (2002–2026)

With heavy hearts, we share our condolences to Sarah and Henry Rosciti of Rosciti Quarter Horses on the passing of their beloved mare, Slow Legs, lovingly known as “Leggie,” “Leggie Lou,” and, fittingly, “Grandma.”

Sired by Artful Investment and out of the Thoroughbred mare Jessie’s Quick, Slow Legs was bred by Betsy Tuckey and went on to become the kind of mare whose name carried meaning both in and out of the show pen.

Her accomplishments spoke for themselves. Slow Legs was the 2007 AQHA World Champion Junior Hunter Hack, a Congress Reserve Champion Junior Hunter Hack, and earned more than 126 AQHA points in her career. She was talented, elegant, and proven, the kind of mare who had every right to be remembered as one of the greats.

But to the Rosciti family, she was so much more than her record.

Sarah shared that they had owned Leggie twice, and when they bought her back the second time at 18, they promised her she would live with them until her last breath. That promise was kept. In her later years, Leggie held court as only a great old mare can: the boss in every field, a big presence on the farm, and occasionally a very sassy girl when it came time for her meds.

Those are the details that make a horse unforgettable. Not only the titles, the ribbons, or the points, but the personality that fills a barn and leaves an unmistakable quiet when it is gone.

Slow Legs lived a life that mattered. She was a champion, a producer, a teacher, a presence, and a mare deeply loved by the people who knew her best.

From all of us at StallionCompare, we extend our deepest sympathy to Sarah, Henry, and everyone who loved Leggie.

Rest easy, sweet girl. Your big mare presence will be missed beyond words. 🤍
