It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of the exceptional stallion, Absolute Asset, fondly known as Lute. At 28 years old, Lute’s remarkable life and legacy have profoundly impacted the western pleasure world.
Bred by AQHA Top-5 Leading Breeder, McWhirter Quarter Horses, Absolute Asset was celebrated for his well-balanced conformation, naturally level head carriage, excellent extension, and smooth movement. Throughout his distinguished career, he sired offspring that excelled in both English and Western disciplines, earning over 4,000 AQHA show points, 100 Show All-Around and Reserve All-Around wins, and $55,000 in show earnings. His progeny have achieved over 85 Champion and Reserve Champion titles at prestigious events such as AQHA World, Reichert Celebration, NSBA World, PHBA World, ABRA World, and Color Breed Congress.
Absolute Asset’s influence extended far beyond his own achievements. Recognized as a Top 50 NSBA Leading English Sire in 2010 and a Top 50 AQHA Leading Sire in performance halter from 2012 to 2018, his legacy as a sire is unparalleled. His offspring have excelled in a wide range of events, including performance halter, showmanship, hunter under saddle, hunt seat equitation, disciplined-rail English, pleasure driving, western pleasure, western riding, horsemanship, ranch trail, and trail.
In his later years, Lute continued to contribute significantly to the MU Equine Program, where he produced high-quality foals and played a vital role in student education. His legacy will live on through the generations of foals he sired, with several youngstock still to be sold and more offspring expected in the coming years.
The passing of Absolute Asset is a tremendous loss to the equine community. His remarkable impact on the breeding world and the countless lives he touched will never be forgotten. Rest in peace, Lute. Your legacy will continue to inspire and influence for generations to come.
