She was supposed to be part of the future.
At only two years old, Best Be Movin Over, affectionately known as “Roxy,” had barely begun her story when a tragic accident took her far too soon. For Southern Heritage Performance Horses, she was a young mare they had envisioned one day becoming an important part of their broodmare band. For her breeder, Todd Michael, and owner Dr. Christa L. Fry Bragg, she represented years of breeding decisions, hopes, and possibilities that should have had so much more time to unfold.
Roxy was sired by The Best Martini and out of Just Cool Movin, a full sister to Cool Lookin Lady. She was also a maternal sister to the great All Nett, giving this young mare a family behind her that made it easy to understand why there were such high hopes for her future.
But pedigrees have a way of describing where a horse came from without ever capturing who they were.
Roxy was still becoming herself. At two, there should have been years ahead to discover what she might accomplish, what kind of mother she might become, and what she might contribute to the next generation. Those who believed in her will never have those answers, and that is perhaps the cruellest part of losing a young horse to a freak accident. There was no long goodbye and no time to prepare. One moment there was a future to plan for, and suddenly there wasn’t.
Yet a short life is not an insignificant one.
Roxy mattered before she ever had the opportunity to prove herself. She mattered because she was loved, because people believed in her, and because simply having her in their lives had already made her part of their story.
From all of us at StallionCompare, we extend our heartfelt condolences to Dr. Christa L. Fry Bragg, Todd Michael, everyone at Southern Heritage Performance Horses, and all who knew and cared for this beautiful young mare.
Rest easy, Roxy.
You deserved so many more springs, so many more years, and the chance to become everything those who loved you knew you could be. Though the future everyone imagined for you was taken far too soon, the place you earned in their hearts remains yours forever.
