Best to Be Slow (2016–2025)

In Loving Memory: Best to Be Slow (2016 – 2025)

With heavy hearts, we share the passing of the beloved show gelding Best to Be Slow, affectionately known as Roméo, on June 14, 2025. Bred for excellence and cherished for his presence, Roméo was sired by Lopin My Best (by RL Best of Sudden and out of A Sweet Little Mouse) and out of Odysseys Golden Girl, a daughter of A Chocolate Odyssey. From pedigree to performance, Roméo embodied elegance, athleticism, and an unmistakable bond with his owner.

Owned and adored by Sonia Vilandré of Québec, Canada, Roméo was more than a champion — he was a partner, a teacher, and a constant source of joy. The duo's undeniable connection lit up the arena at every show. In 2022, they earned two Top Five placings and two Reserve Champion titles at the All American Quarter Horse Congress, a testament to their dedication and chemistry.

Best to Be Slow was the kind of horse that left an impression — not just through accolades, but through the quiet strength he carried in and out of the ring. Whether under the bright lights of competition or during quiet moments at home, Roméo gave his whole heart.

Our deepest condolences go out to Sonia and all of Roméo’s connections. The show pen won’t be the same without his graceful presence, and his absence leaves a profound void in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.

Rest easy, Roméo. You were truly one of a kind.
