Full of Haute Couture

With heavy hearts, we share the passing of Full of Haute Couture, lovingly known as “Minnie” — a remarkable mare owned and deeply cherished by Heidi DeJong and family of DeJong Performance Horses.

Minnie was the kind of mare that comes along once in a lifetime: the kind you build plans around, the kind you count on, the kind you love like family. A 2018 buckskin mare sired by Full Medal Jacket, she carried herself with presence and purpose — and she gave everything she had, every step of the way.

In the show pen, Minnie was exceptional. Her accomplishments tell a story of talent, heart, and consistency at the highest levels:

• Two-time 2022 ABRA World Champion

• Three-time 2022 ABRA Reserve World Champion

• Two-time 2022 ABRA World NSBA Champion

Yet for all she achieved, Minnie’s greatest title was the one she held at home — beloved. She was a cornerstone mare at DeJong Performance Horses, a steady presence in the barn, and a heart-horse in the truest sense.

Heidi shared that Minnie’s passing came during foaling, when labour took an unexpected and heartbreaking turn: a breech baby, a folded hock, and no realistic chance to reach surgical help in time. Faced with impossible circumstances, the DeJong family made the compassionate choice to say goodbye — a decision rooted in love, courage, and the promise we make to our horses: that we will not let them suffer.

In the midst of grief, Heidi’s words hold both sorrow and faith — and they reflect the quiet strength Minnie inspired in those who loved her:

“Minnie was a good one… But life is still beautiful. The birds are still singing. God is still good and faithful.”

To Heidi, her family, and the entire DeJong Performance Horses team — we extend our deepest condolences. Minnie’s absence will be felt in every routine, every quiet moment in the aisle, and every space where her spirit used to fill the barn. But so will her legacy: in her wins, in the memories she gave, and in the love she leaves behind.
