We are deeply saddened to hear of the unexpected passing of the legendary stallion, Its A Southern Thing, affectionately known as “Moonpie.” A true standout, Moonpie’s accomplishments are remarkable, having sired progeny with over half a million dollars in earnings. His legacy includes multiple World Champions, Congress Champions, and major futurity and slot class winners. In 2022, Moonpie ranked as the #6 NSBA Leading Sire, the #5 QDATA Leading Hunter Under Saddle Sire, and the #4 QDATA Leading Western Pleasure Sire.
Moonpie's personal accolades are also impressive, including being AQHA Superior Awards in Jr. Western Pleasure and Jr. Western Riding, NSBA 2015 World Champion - Jr. Western Riding, Congress 2014 - Top 5 Green Hunter Under Saddle out of 118 entries, and AQHA 2015 World Show - Reserve Champion in both Level 2 & 3 Western Riding.
Among his great progeny, the stallion Enticed stands out as a rising star, continuing the legacy his sire leaves behind. Moonpie’s untimely passing has left a void in the industry, and he will forever be remembered for the joy and success he brought to his owners, the Gumz Family, and all who had the honour to know him. His influence will live on in the many offspring who continue to excel in the show ring.
We send our deepest condolences to all of Moonpie's family and wish them healing in this incredibly difficult time.
