It is with heavy hearts that we share the passing of the great stallion Lena Gallo (2000 Bay Stallion, by Gallo Del Cielo out of Heavenly Doc), who left us peacefully this morning at the age of 25.
For those who followed reining, Lena Gallo was more than a name in a show program — he was one of “the best ones.” His presence in the show pen was unmistakable, his talent undeniable, and his legacy as both a performer and sire secure. Throughout his remarkable career, he amassed notable earnings and produced a host of talented offspring, each carrying forward his strength, athleticism, and heart.
Yet beyond the accolades, Lena Gallo meant something far greater to those closest to him. To Kari and John Lapke of Lapke Quarter Horses, he was not only a stallion, but a partner, teacher, and family member. As Kari shared, “What he has done for Lapke Quarter Horses and anyone who was lucky enough to ride him can’t truly be measured. He has spent his last few years here at our home and it won’t ever be the same here without him… he was my boy and he will always be The Best One.”
The reining world has lost a true icon, but his memory will live on — in his foals, in the moments he gave us in the show arena, and in the hearts of all who had the privilege of knowing him.
Rest easy, Lena Gallo. You were — and will always remain — The Best One.
