With shattered hearts, we share the passing of Relentless PYC, the all-time winning roping horse futurity mare, who died in an accident. Her loss is untimely and immeasurable—for Solo Select, for owner Melanie Smith, and for everyone who was fortunate enough to know, ride, and love her.
More than her record, Relentless PYC was pure try—smart, willing, and fiercely generous. She met every gate with quiet focus and left every arena having given all she had. In a few short years she redefined what a rope horse futurity mare could be, stacking major titles and lighting up the sport with her speed, mind, and heart.
Those who worked with her speak first of her kindness: a mare who read the moment, came back the same every day, and made hard things look easy. She was a teammate, a teacher, and a steady presence in the barn—a favourite to be around and impossible to forget.
Relentless PYC’s legacy will live on in the horses and people she elevated—the riders she carried to the pay window, the fans she inspired, and the program she helped shape. The standard she set in the futurity pen will continue to influence breeders, trainers, and competitors for years to come.
To Melanie Smith, the Solo Select family, and the entire team behind her—please accept our deepest condolences. Thank you for sharing this extraordinary mare with the world.
🤍 Run free, Relentless. Your name, your kindness, and your influence will never be forgotten.
