Shiney Tari (2000–2026)

The reined cow horse world said goodbye to a mare who helped shape an era. Shiney Tari – the NRCHA Million Dollar Dam owned by Aaron Ranch and bred by Carol Rose – passed away on March 24, 2026, at 26 years old.

Shiney Tari was royally bred and unquestionably proven: a sorrel mare by Shining Spark, out of Tarizana (by Tari’s Catalyst).  But her real greatness wasn’t just written in her pedigree – it was written in the horses she produced and the careers she helped launch.

In a tribute shared by NRCHA, Cresha Aaron reflected on the honour of owning her and the love behind her final resting place: Shiney Tari was laid to rest under the big pecan tree out front of the barn, next to Peptoboonsmal – a fitting, reverent goodbye for a mare who did so much for the program and for the industry.

Among her most celebrated offspring are two of the sport’s standouts – Shine Smarter ($366,919.89 NRCHA LTE) and Smart Chic An Tari ($308,315.03 NRCHA LTE) – both shown by NRCHA Two Million Dollar Rider Sarah Dawson, who credited Shiney Tari’s foals with launching careers and leaving a permanent mark on the sport.

For breeder Carol Rose, Shiney Tari was personal – one of the greatest she ever bred and raised, a mare tied to vivid, cherished memories that span generations of horses and horsemen. That kind of remembrance speaks to what Shiney Tari truly was: not only a producer of champions, but a once-in-a-lifetime mare whose impact reached far beyond the arena.

Shiney Tari’s legacy is secure – measured in milestones, in earnings, and in excellence. Quarter Horse News noted her achievement as an EquiStat Elite $1 Million Dam, built largely through the success of her offspring across reined cow horse and beyond.  Yet the people who loved her will remember something even more meaningful: the mare herself – extraordinary, irreplaceable, and deeply missed.

Rest easy, Shiney Tari.

You gave the industry greatness – and you gave your people something they will carry forever.
