Wind Her Up Chic (2003–2026)

With heavy hearts, we honour the life of Wind Her Up Chic, lovingly known as “Windy,” a great mare whose influence on the reining industry will be felt for generations.

A 2003 bay AQHA mare by Smart Chic Olena and out of Wind Her Up Doc by Docs Sidewinder, Windy carried the kind of pedigree that already suggested greatness. But she did far more than live up to it. She became a standout in the show pen, earning more than $102,000 in NRHA lifetime earnings, along with an AQHA Performance ROM, and proved herself at the sport’s highest levels with appearances and top placings in major NRHA and NRBC open events.

But as remarkable as her performance career was, Windy’s legacy only grew stronger as a broodmare.

In 2024, she became the ninth NRHA Million Dollar Dam, a historic milestone that placed her among the most influential mares in reining history. Her foals carried forward her talent, athleticism, and unmistakable quality, producing major champions and finalists, including performers such as Wound Up Wimp, who helped launch her produce record, and a deep family of earners who continued to elevate her name.

Her impact was made even more extraordinary by the family she came from. Windy was a half-sister to another NRHA Million Dollar Dam, Wind Her Up Shiner, making their dam, Wind Her Up Doc, one of the rarest and most influential mares in the modern reining industry.

Windy’s accomplishments were rightfully honoured with her induction into the NRHA Hall of Fame, recognizing not only what she achieved, but what she gave back to the sport through her offspring, her bloodlines, and the doors she opened for the horses who followed her.

From all of us at StallionCompare, we extend our deepest condolences to everyone who knew, loved, and believed in Wind Her Up Chic. She was more than a champion and more than a producer. She was one of the great mares — the kind whose name will continue to appear in pedigrees, programs, and conversations for years to come.

Rest easy, Windy. Your legacy is written in champions. 🤍
