Zips Bossy Chip, the legendary AQHA all-time points leader, has passed away, as confirmed by owner Ellexxah Ireland Maxwell in a heartfelt social media announcement.
Born in 2008, Zips Bossy Chip was a remarkable bay mare, originally bred by the University of Findlay in Findlay, Ohio. She boasted an impressive lineage, being sired by UK Mito Boss and out of the Jessies Fancy Chip mare Suzies Fancy Chip.
Maxwell became Zips Bossy Chip's owner in 2011, and together, they etched their names in history. In 2017, they shattered a 30-year record for youth points, accumulating an astounding 4,846. Subsequently, in May 2019, they achieved the remarkable feat of surpassing the all-time record.
The duo of Maxwell and 'Annie' left an indelible mark on the equestrian world, clinching the Markel Insurance High-Point Youth team titles in 2013, 2015, 2016, 2017, and 2018. They also secured the reserve high-point youth team titles in 2012 and 2014, amassing over $50,000 in scholarship money, generously provided by AQHA corporate partner Markel Insurance.
Annie exhibited versatility, earning youth points in various disciplines, including halter, performance halter, trail, reining, western pleasure, showmanship, horsemanship, hunter under saddle, and hunt seat equitation. In open competition, the mare showcased her prowess in halter, performance halter, reining, and trail.
Over the course of her illustrious career, Annie accumulated an impressive 6,622.5 AQHA points, comprising 77 amateur points, 540 open points, and a staggering 6,005.5 youth points.
In a poignant post, Maxwell expressed the profound bond she shared with Zips Bossy Chip. She reminisced about the triumphs and challenges they faced together, highlighting the mare's unique qualities—quirky, opinionated, smart, and determined. Maxwell acknowledged Annie as her best friend, recounting the moments of triumph and failure they navigated together over their ten-year journey.
Annie's legacy extends beyond accolades, as she embodied a true companion and source of strength for Maxwell. The mare's unexpected passing has left Maxwell grappling with a whirlwind of emotions, but she remains determined to carry Annie's spirit forward with the same fire and determination that defined their partnership.
With a heavy heart, Maxwell bid farewell to her beloved companion, acknowledging that while it's not goodbye, she will carry Zips Bossy Chip's memory with her forever. The equestrian community will undoubtedly remember and honor the legacy of this extraordinary mare, whose impact transcends the confines of the show ring.
